Pilgrim President
John Davenport's
Business Philosophy
People
 |
Our people are our most important asset. We will
insist that our people perform to their highest potential. To
further that potential, I believe in on the job training and
delegation of responsibility. I will accept mistakes by our
people as long as they profit from them and do not make the same
mistakes time and again.
|
 |
I
believe in promotion from within, whenever possible. This offers an
upward path and continuity of management philosophy for
the employees. I will strive to fill every position in the
organization with people capable of earning their way up.
However, I also realize the benefits to be derived from hiring
outside the industry. This can bring fresh and different ideas
to the company.
|
 |
I
believe in outside education, as it relates to the job. The success of the company depends on the
sum of the individual successes. Therefore, we strive to
fill our positions with the most talented people available.
|
 |
I believe in
formal job measures as well as evaluations against these
measures on a routine basis to inform our people as to how they and
the company are progressing toward the established goals in the
business plan.
|
 |
I believe in operating a
safe, neat clean plant for its benefits on productivity,
attitude and prestige.
|
Customers
 |
I believe our
customers are the sole reason for our being. Therefore, we must
treat them honestly, fairly and with respect. Our customers have
certain rights including service in accordance with our agreement
and prompt and complete
problem resolution.
|
 |
I acknowledge that
we will make mistakes, however, we will correct our mistakes in
an earnest and forthright manner.
|
 |
I believe every
customer should make a contribution to our profit margin. It is
unfair for some customers to shoulder more than their fair share
of cost. It is therefore our responsibility to understand the
factors that make up our cost structure.
|
 |
I believe that our
customers should uphold their responsibilities as outlined in
the service agreement.
|
Suppliers
 |
I believe we have
certain rights with respect to our suppliers including
consistent, timely and accurate delivery of products that we
have ordered at
the price agreed upon.
|
 |
I believe our
suppliers should be dealt with in an honest and forthright
manner. They should be paid as agreed upon. They should be given
an opportunity to continue to do business with Pilgrim.
|
Competitors
 |
Pilgrim will not
criticize a competitor in public since it serves no useful purpose.
We will however, emphasize honest differences in our approach
to fulfilling the needs of the customer.
|
 |
We believe in the
spirit of Free Enterprise since it brings a choice to the customer,
activity to the market place and increases business. I
intend to comply with all anti-trust laws.
|
Planning
 |
I believe in
formalized corporate planning as an intelligent means to achieve
our desired position in the market place and therefore achieve
success.
|
 |
I believe in
monitored yearly plans and budgets as the means of achieving our
profit goals, which are essential to the business.
|
 |
I believe that our
investors are entitled to a fair return on their invested
capital, defined as the long term cost of capital plus a factor
for the risk involved.
|
Growth
 |
I believe that
growth is essential to our company, since it lessens our
vulnerability to negative outside influences. Our growth offers
upward mobility to the employees and allows the company to
maintain state of the art technology.
|
 |
I believe that long
term growth should be funded internally. However, I would not
hesitate to take advantage of an opportunity. I will consider
all acquisitions.
|
 |
Long term debt
should not exceed 60% of assets. I do not believe in growth for
growth's sake. The growth must enable the company to benefit
from the economies of scale and related profit potentials.
|
Management Style
 |
I believe in a
participative management style. This enables Pilgrim to have
greater input from our people and brings greater insight in the
formation of decisions.
|
 |
I
believe in management by objective, rather than crisis
management because of its beneficial impact on all aspects
of the business.
|
 |
I believe in
two-way communication within the company. Ideas from all levels
of the organization will be sought and implemented where
beneficial and possible.
|
 |
I believe in
keeping employees informed of the progress on the company, the
department within the company and the employee within the
department.
|
Community
 |
Pilgrim will always be aware of its
impact on a clean environment and will do everything possible not
to harm that environment. We will conduct ourselves as good
citizens, both professionally and personally and support
activities that we feel are beneficial to the city, community or
country.
|
 |
I encourage active
participation on the part of all our employees in community
action.
